Но вот стабильно выигрывать игру за игрой у них не получается. Вот сегодня подверглись разгрому со стороны Шпор. Стоит отметить, что у Сити не играли Бэллами, Райт-Филлипс и Лескотт, а у Шпор отсутсвовал Модрич.

Liverpool manager Benitez 'guarantees' top four finish

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez says he "guarantees" that they will finish in the top four despite their poor form so far this season.

Having begun hoping to challenge for the title Liverpool lie seventh in the table, 13 points behind leaders Chelsea and out of the Champions League.

"I am sure we can do it because I know we are better than the team you are seeing on the pitch," said Benitez.

"I can guarantee we will finish in the top four."

Rafa Benitez has confirmed Liverpool will hand Javier Mascherano and Glen Johnson late fitness tests ahead of Wednesday's clash with Wigan.

The duo sustained knocks in the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at the weekend, but the Reds will give the pair every chance of facing the Latics.

Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Mascherano trained today and Johnson was working with the physios.

"We will have to wait and see on both."

HYYPIÄ'S LEVERKUSEN AIMING TO BE "WINTER CHAMPIONS"

Leverkusen continued their defeatless season with a 2-2 draw against Hertha Berlin on Friday night. The one point secures Leverkusen's place at the top of the table even after the weekend and the respected first place after the autumn - ”Herbstmeisterschaft” - is close.

"We had lots of set pieces, but we could only create something out of them towards the end of the game", Hyypiä says. "We haven't lost any of our games and that's probably something not many would've believed before the season began. We have a bit too many draws." (Sound familiar, anyone?)

"We are going to be at the top of the table after the weekend, so whether we become the winter champions or not is in our own hands the next weekend."

HYYPIÄ A CAPTAIN IN FOUR COUNTRIES

Finnish football history was written as Sami Hyypiä lead his team Bayer Leverkusen to the pitch in the game against Hannover.

"The armband is always an honour. Our regular captain Simon Rolfes was away and Manuel Friedrich couldn't play today either", Hyypiä aknowledged the matter.

But this is no unimpressive achievement. Hyypiä has played in four countries and has worn the captain's armband in each country's highest level. The centreback has captained MYPA in Finland, Willem II in Holland, Liverpool in England and now Leverkusen in Germany. In a manner very typical for him, Hyypiä doesn't highlight his own part, but puts the club's best interest first.

"On Saturday the armband didn't really help. If I could've chosen, I would've prefered having three points and not the armband in my arm."

Sami has played 90 minutes in Leverkusen's every match this season, except for the one against Schalke where he injured himself. He has worn the captain's armband twice now. Leverkusen has started their season better than anyone would've imagined. I'm proud. And happy that he made the transfer. He deserves to play and succeed. Over and out.

Уиган забил - даже не с центра поля, а со своей его половины.
По-футбольному красиво. Атаковали-атаковали "гончары", потом сфолили, и пока медленно разбредались по полю, Фигэроа пробил штрафной метров с 60-и в дальнюю девятку. Эх, Соренсен, куда только смотрел!

зы: И еще забавно. Резервный рефери заставил снять нижнюю длиннорукавку Битти, когда тот выходил на замену. Не понятно почему. Ну, весь Сток Сити бегает в красных, а у Битти была белая - типа неэстетично?.. Они ж все равно красно-бело-полосатые, всё логично: кто-то в красных, кто-то в белых, для симметрии. А если нужна синхронность - декабре-месяце уж не пофиг ли на красоту неземную? :))) Впрочем, злее будет, хотя обвинить Битти в том, что он стоит на поле, было бы сложно. Бегает, греется :)

упд: Соренсен реабилитировался - взял левый пенальти на 90-й минуте :) А то было бы даже обидно, Сток во втором тайме очень убедительно смотрелся.

Soooo, the Europa League eh?

What are your expectations and how do you think we should approach this?
Youngsters/reserves or go all out and win the damn thing?
I'm not feeling the whole embarrassment part. I'm dead excited to play in it, there are some good teams in there: Roma, Valencia, JUVE! So it's not gonna be a complete bore. Plus, we could use some money, however little it may be.

I'm not so sure we can easily win it because we're LFC and we love under performing against small clubs(I'm not talkin about the toffees), but it's still a competition and it'll be enjoyable to play in.

So basically, what are your thoughts on playing in the Europa League and how will your line up look like?
